The mill and mixer arrived at the doorstep today. But the blender was missing. After a few e-mails, some apologies, the blender is being shipped in the morning.

This reminded me of how without set plans, goals, we as humans seem to operate at our lowest level of self confidence. We offer excuses, apologies, regrets. In fact, our lives are really only operating at a fraction of the level they could be if we only had a game plan.

Okay, you say, I’ll make up a game plan and confidence will exude. Not so fast!

Let’s learn more about “confidence”. First, how do you get it? How can you have it so you can walk out the door and up to somebody and tell them about your great business? Yes, you have to have belief, but how is belief formed? Confidence only happens when you can confide in something reliable, something consistent.

Take for example the chair you’re sitting in while reading this. Confident it’s going to hold you? Did you look at it, ask other’s opinion before you sat down? No! You just plunked yourself down in it fully believing it would hold your weight – matter of fact, so confident were you that you DIDN’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! You automatically knew it would – based on past experience. It’s consistent, reliable. It will always hold you – don’t worry about it.

So how can you waltz out the door and talk with total confidence about your business?

Your belief must be grounded in something consistent and reliable. What are you believing in? Okay, I’ll help you out here. Like the chair, find something that doesn’t change, no matter what. For instance, the company you are representing. Solid, steadfast. Great. The compensation plan? Solid as well, no? Right on! The products? Wow – totally awesome, best on the planet hands down. Okay – you can believe in those things.

Next, since Network Marketing is a home based business, you can run it just as you please (as long as you stay within the guidelines of the policy and procedures manual for your company). But, I mean, you choose your hours, your clothes, your marketing technique. Is this the area that is the cause of your low self confidence?

How confident were you when you drove to the store today? Wow, didn’t even think of the drive, did you? What if you were in a new town and someone drew out a map for you. And you followed each step of the map and wound up at your destination. Then, when you left, you just back-tracked – with all the confidence in the world!!! Why? Because you knew exactly where you were going!

As simple as it seems, you may need only to make a map. A plan. A goal. If you were to write out a step-by-step plan for your neighbor to run your business for a day, what would you do? How would that plan look? Step one – step two – step three… all the way until closing, or quitting time. Do you suppose your neighbor would wonder what to do and have zero self confidence? Absolutely not! They would know exactly what to do and when and have all the confidence in the world!

Those steps are consistent things which your neighbor knew would not change for the period you were away. Just like the chair, he or she would rely on the next step and just do it.

Now suppose step number four said – Okay, now, drive to Sally’s house on the east side of town. Then come back and wrap up some boxes.

Hey, wait! How do I get to Sally’s? And Sally who? And what do I do when I get there? And wrap what boxes? I’m not sure WHAT I’m doing!!?!!

See how important having rock solid goals and a roadmap to get there is? Wake up! It’s vital to your business and most importantly your self confidence!

Paul, the apostle, was SO confident. Many times he said it was because of his great trust in God (talk about consistent and reliable!) 2 Cor 3:4-5. John related this, too in I John 3:19-22. Being bold and confident was Paul’s trademark, and he was only able to do it because his belief was in something he knew would never, ever change or let him down.

Get bold. Get confident. Create those “steps”. Believe in your system and don’t worry about the outcome.

Paul never did.
