The Odds Aren’t In Your Favor

March 30th, 2007 at 12:54pm Under Life

Our house is a block from the beach. We walk there almost every day. One of the challenges is to jog from the house, down the boardwalk at Clam Pass, around the beach to Seagate Drive and back home. What makes it so hard is the terrain. The boardwalk isn’t flat. It goes up and down through the mangroves. The sand is challenging to run through because it is powdery and not compact. And the last leg home - gravity is doing its number.

And that’s just it. The odds aren’t in my favor. I run, but everything is fighting back. I am happy it makes me stronger.

Remember that success is rare. One in a hundred becomes wealthy in a lifetime. Only 5% (a figure that’s held true for years now), achieve financial independence.

As we get ready for Vegas, the odds makers would put that at 19 to 1.

If I walk my way around the Clam Pass run, I’ll get a little exercise - but mainly will get a nice tan. Not very useful. I know I have to take exercise seriously in order to put the odds in my favor.

The only way you’re going to achieve your financial goals is if you get really serious. Write that down. To succeed, you must get serious. Must get busy. Must get active. Must get going. Everything counts.

Listen to how life gets in the way. You wake up, think that today would be a great day to work on goals, so you say - I’ll skip today to work on goals. No exercise - I can do that tomorrow. Next day, man - chilly outside - I’ll jump on the rebounder… but first, let’s have a big breakfast. After all - eat breakfast like a king, right? Then after breakfast, I don’t feel like jumping at all, so I read the paper and get ready for work.

Don’t don’t don’t let it happen to you. Promise me you will NOT let the odds get in your way of your success. It’s only a decision. And you can control that.

Work on you. Master yourself. Control yourself. Discipline yourself. Control over your thoughts is the hardest exercise in self-mastery you will ever engage in. To show you how hard this is - see if you can talk and think about only what you desire and not talk or think about anything that you don’t want - for 24 hours.

You’ll see what you’re made of. It is tough! But with practice, guess what? You can reach the point where you’re thinking about your goals and desires most of the time. Then everything will change for the better! You are awesome!

Tell me if you struggle and what methods you use to think yourself through the bad thoughts.

Now, a favor - if you know anyone who you feel could benefit from this, have them check out and sign up at www.davejackson.com
