Impossibilities
In John 6, Jesus fed 5,000 people. And when the people there saw this miracle, they said, “Come on, guys…this man MUST be the Prophet we’ve been waiting for!” And Jesus saw that these people were ready to take him by force and make him king, so he got away and went to higher hills.
My Bible is amazing. A treasure for SO many reasons. One of the best is to me it’s just SO practical. I mean, these stories I read are just as applicable today as they were when Jesus walked the earth. I’ve been through times when my back was up against the wall and the mess I was in seemed to have NO solution. I just didn’t know what to do. And when that happens, I simply gotta remember that impossible situations are opportunities for God to teach me valuable lessons that, well… He knows I’d never learn any other way.
God’s supremacy supersedes my resources. Like in John, you know…Jesus asked, “Okay, where do we buy some bread around here so these people can eat?” Philip knew he couldn’t really help in this situation. I mean, Jesus knew what He was doing all along; He was teaching His disciples that the perfect plan and the power to put it to work come only from God alone, not from any of us.
God often requires us to participate. Yes, Jesus could have spoken bread into existence, but He wanted to use people to achieve His purpose. If you recall the story, Andrew looked about for food and a young kid gave up his lunch. The disciples did their best to organize everyone and handed out the food that Jesus handed them. Can you see it? Each little phase required trust and obedience, given that Christ’s way seemed so illogical.
God knows how to solve my problem, but many times He wants my cooperation…to the point of asking me to do something that seems unreasonable. And you know, when I give my flawed solutions and minuscule resources to Him, and take that step in obedience, He does great things in me and through me.

Can the local secular Franciscans use your picture of Jesus feeding the 5000 for one week on its web site.
