Dog Whisperer Lessons

It’s just the way we’re wired, I suppose. Trying from birth to figure out what God did and does, and crack open a clue to the big picture. All to later die still wondering if we even scratched the surface.

Dogs are an interesting bunch. Like most animals, they can’t communicate the way you and I communicate – with complexity. Or do they? I find it interesting that God put a barrier between us and most of the animals; well, all of them, I suppose. I don’t know of any species we communicate with as easy as picking up the phone or reading an email.

And in there I believe is a purpose. Something that keeps us separate on a relationship level. Yes, I love when I come home and Ginger jumps all over me to say welcome home. Few strings attached. And if I neglect her for a bit, she doesn’t hold that against me. We don’t connect the way I would with you. If she does have “feelings” of some sort, and I think she does on some level, she doesn’t spend hours wondering if I am going to pet her the next time.

If we could communicate with animals, I’m pretty sure we’d be overwhelmed with the work in keeping up all the relationships. It’s difficult enough with people. Maybe that’s why God made it so they don’t ask 100 questions at the door when we arrive. Remember Dr. Doolittle?

When you do take time to figure out a dog’s feelings, you’ll find that they have similar ones to ours. They can be sad, happy, excited, down. The problem is in the communication. When you spend time figuring out how to “whisper” to a dog, or “dog whispering”, you’ll see that they do respond. Still, it’s a long road and frustrating. We don’t speak their language.

What you CAN do is communicate clearly with humans. Most of us don’t, and should. Some of us feel we do, but really are poor “communicators.” In other words, we get all the words right, we just don’t do a good job of communicating them to others. Case in point is correcting someone. Often we simply put someone down, for the sake of looking better than them, while correcting a mistake.

Other times it is a barrage of words that are hurtful. Remember what Mom said about words. You can’t take them back. Even the Bible says they are worse than weapons. So I guess a course on people skills is in order for most of us.

Before you open your mouth, think about your people skills. Are you going to be hurtful, or helpful – to the point you will be liked? People are people – not animals. You can’t say just anything and not expect to have repercussions. Words are the most powerful things humans have, and yet, sadly, they are most undervalued. People divorce over words.

Be good and we’ll catch up with you next time. It’s late and a friend is coming in the morning to pick up a rare Brazilwood tree in my front yard. And I do want to get some yard work done before it’s 90 degrees F out there. Till next time.

Can You Feel the Vibes?

OK, we’re to the point in talking about this Law of Attraction stuff where the next part affects everyone and it was here that really convinced me that this stuff works.  There is science behind the thinking and I understand it, but this thing about “vibes” is something you must accept – because we have all experience it.

I see this happen daily, and always because of people.  What I mean is, whenever we feel a “vibe” from something, it is tied to a human force.  Think about that for a second.  When you’re in a lousy neighborhood, don’t you get “bad” vibes?  And when you’re standing next to one of your heros, don’t you get those “good” vibes?

I am the type of person who reads someone and immediately has an opinion about them.  I know that’s not always idea.  My wife says I should always give people the benefit of a doubt and a chance, but I don’t always.  She gets “vibes”, too.  Just wants to make double-sure she’s right.

You get these feelings, too.  And they equate to a mood or a feeling we get.  The word “vibe” comes from vibration.  If you’ve studied science at all, you know that vibrations are ever present in our world.  But did you know that there are only two types of vibrations?  Positive and negative.

So every mood or feeling we have causes us to emit a positive or negative vibration.  I mean even if we check out a list you come up with for words that describe our moods or feelings, we can immediately tell whether that is a negative or positive vibration.

We all send out these vibrations and that’s why some people make you feel real good just being around them – and others, make you feel creepy.

Well, time to get on with my day.  But take that thought with you and do your best to send out good vibrations!

There’s More to it Than That

I don’t know how you were taught, but when I was a child, transported to and from church each time the doors were open, there were certain things the adults in my sphere of influence told me were simply from the devil.

If anything strange happened, it was either a miracle or something from the other side. This all depended on how the strange thing took place. If it benefited the church – for some reason it was a miracle. And if it didn’t – then it was straight from hades.

Do you think things are so cut and dried? Or maybe we’ve gotten more lax and have a more open mind about these things.

I believe that with age comes wisdom and when I was in my twenties, these things were more cut and dried. There was no gray area and if there were you couldn’t talk your way out of it, easily at least.

But now as I look back on all things I’ve experienced, I can see that everything God has created has some sort of very spiritual side which is deep and hard to understand. And I’m not sure why we are this way – or why things are this way. Perhaps when we all get to heaven we’ll only use that side and somehow it will all make sense.

I see this spiritual side in more than humans. I see it in other animals and even some plants. It’s as if they had feelings (plants) and could understand us on some spiritual wavelength. Some say when we communicate with plants, they do better. Or is it that when we communicate with them, God is really just eavesdropping and He cares for the plant?

Animals I’ve come to know have a spiritual side. They sense things somehow before they happen in ways that we cannot understand given our knowledge of their senses. They seem to be able to reason and there have been incidents of animals traveling cross-country back to their home – not that this is spiritual, but to me that is more than just being a pet.

So I believe that there is a spiritual side to us that most of us are afraid to use. I am one. It’s the fear of the unknown and the fear that you have always been told that any feeling like that is not Godly – so you best not wander there.

I remember being told that meditation was evil and was an easy way that satan could enter your mind. And yet, today – I know that multitasking and keeping our mind on overload is far from healthy – and that clearing our mind – thinking on Godly things in a peaceful environment is so beneficial to our productivity.

I wonder what you think. When the Secret came out a while back, were you confused? Did you think that part of it may be good, but that you felt it wrong to follow? Tell me where you stand – Don’t you think there is more to it than what we’ve been told?
